Marjorie K. Dent, age 95, Bloomsburg, went to be with her Lord at 4:50 a. m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Signature Health Care At Bloomsburg nursing facility where she was a guest for two and a half years.
Born in Lightstreet on November 23, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Glen and Lorraine (Howell) Kile. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Scott Township High School.
Marjorie was an active member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and directed the children's choir. She was known as "Aunt Marge" to all the children she taught songs to for over 50 years, during the Sunday School hour
She was a life member of Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern Star, having been a member for over 50 years..
Marjorie and her husband, along with her brother, owned the Bloomsburg Ice and Cold Storage and also Towne Marine, until selling the businesses in 1970. She had a passion for the Bloomsburg Fair and operated two different stands, in early years a food stand and later a stand selling costume jewelry in the Industrial Building. In her later years, she managed the former May's Dress Store in the Scott Town Plaza.
She and her husband enjoyed the summers on their cruiser on the St. Lawrence River in Canada. Following retirement, they spent six months each year in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed the winter months with a lot of new friends. She was known for infectious laugh.
Marjorie married her husband, Carl G. "Shorty" Dent at the Methodist parsonage in Espy on December 29, 1941, They lived in California following their marriage while he served in the US Army. She was employed as a clerk/typist at the various bases he was stationed. When the war ended, they returned to Lightstreet and later moved to Bloomsburg. Her loving husband preceded her in death on August 8, 1999. A brother, Glen Kile, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia A. "Patsy", wife of Bruce Weir, Bloomsburg; a grandson, John T. Mahon, and his wife MJ, Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Jodi, wife of Douglas Phifer, Brambleton, Va.; two great grandchildren: Maisie Phifer and Max Phifer; a brother, Willard H. Kile, Sr., and his wife Joan, Lightstreet; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Jennifer Parks-Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Lightstreet "Highland" Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p. m.
