MARTHA R. HARTMAN
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend
Martha R. (Force) Hartman, age 92, 330 W. Third St., Bloomsburg, died at 11 a. m. Friday, December 2, 2011, and went into the arms of her heavenly father at the Bloomsburg Hospital, several hours after she was admitted.
Born in Greenwood Township on March 25, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd D. and Carrie M (Yocum) Force.
Her early life was spent in Bloomsburg, where she was a 1937 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She resided in Danville for 37 years and returned to Bloomsburg in 1988.
Martha started the coffee shop at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville and worked there for many years, leaving to raise her two youngest children. She later was employed at the former Sheraton Inn in Danville, working as a pastry chef for many years, until she retired. She later was the assistant site manager for the Bloomsburg Senior Center, located at St. Luke Lutheran Church, working until her failing health forced her retirement.
She was a lifelong member of the Bloomsburg Christian Church where taught Sunday School for many years and also served as a deaconess.
Martha enjoyed doing crafts, cake decorating, baking, cooking and making homemade jellies. She took many classes in various areas of food service. Despite many health struggles in recent years, Martha remained steadfast in her faith and in support of her family. She was "meme" to her loving family and will be greatly missed by all. "Meme" made the best pancakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce H. Hartman on April 17, 1989; by a grandson, Richard Jesse Hartman; a great-grandson, Richard Jesse Hartman, Jr.;a brother, Leslie L. Force; a sister
, Margaret Young; a daughter in law, Carol Hartman; and a son-in-law, Steven Martz.
Surviving are two sons: Richard A. Hartman, and his wife Sherry K., Shalimar, Fla., and Ronald L. Hartman, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters: Bonita, wife of Dennis L. Hartzell, Danville and Susan M. Martz, Bloomsburg; 11 grandchildren: Lloyd, Dean, Bruce, and Ray Hartman; Louise Fortenberry; Hannah, Leah, Jacob, Martha and Daniel Hartzell and Eric Martz and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters: Mae Wolfe, Greene, New York; Joan Mosloskie, Haines, Fla.; Beckey, wife of Paul O. Greenly, Bloomsburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Martha's life will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 3 p. m. in the Bloomsburg Christian Church, 107 Deussen Drive, Bloomsburg, with lead minister, Eric J. Miller officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family in Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township.
