Martin G. Pelas, 94, of Bloomsburg, PA, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 16, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 11, 1930, in Nanticoke, PA, to the late Mary and George Pelas, who ran a confectionery store in the Hanover section of Nanticoke.

A diehard Philadelphia Phillies fan and longtime Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder, Martin was proud of his heritage and passions. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, where he was also a big band drummer, performing with stars like Gary Cooper and Buddy Hackett. He played with several local bands in the Bloomsburg area, including Stanky and the Coalminers.

A graduate of Temple University in 1958, Martin had a long career as a pharmacist. He was the original owner of Medicine Shoppe in Bloomsburg and later retired from his role as a pharmacist at Danville State Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Wentz and Mitzie Sakowski, and his brothers, Joseph Knapich and John Pelas, all from Nanticoke, PA.

Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rose, their three children: Cheryl Littig

(Keith) of Roslyn, PA, Martin Jr. of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Gary of Bloomsburg, PA, as well as his grandson, Alex Littig of Bear, DE.

A memorial celebrating Martin's life will be held in the spring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
