Mary Belle Hunt, age 94, formerly of Charleston, S.C., died at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Emmanuel Center For Nursing, Danville, where she was a guest for three years.
Born in Branchville, S.C. on April 2, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Artisha (Berry) Byrd. She resided in Charleston, S.C. for most of her life until moving to Danville.
She was a member of the James Island Baptist Church, James Island, S.C., where she was involved in many Church-related groups and activities. She also belonged to the American Iris Society and the James Island Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hunt in January 1998; and by a grandson, Paul Mattern in 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeannette, wife of J. Gray Mattern, Danville, and formerly of Bloomsburg; a niece that she raised, Patricia Wilson, Walterboro, S.C.; three grandchildren: Susan Montes, Tacoma, Wash.; David Mattern, Albuquerque, N.M. and Sarah Mattern, San Francisco, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
Memorial services will be held in Bloomsburg in the near future and will be announced. Interment will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charlestown, S.C.
