MARY ANNA (WRIGHT) KLINE
Mary Anna (Wright) Kline, age 83, 180 Chestnut St., Bloomsburg, broke the chains of earthly life and went into the arms of her Lord, surrounded by her loving family at 7:39 p. m. Sat., Aug. 4, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for one week.
Born in Bloomsburg on Jan. 18, 1929, she was the only child of the late Joseph Webster and Hazel Jane (Henrie) Wright. She resided in her family's homestead at 14 E. Third St., Bloomsburg until moving to Orangeville in 1988 and moving back to Bloomsburg in 2010. She will be remembered as a second mother, friend, confidante and care-giver by many.
Mary Anna was a 1948 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1952 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She taught school in Coatesville for a short time and then at Jerseytown. Later she substituted in the Bloomsburg School District. Her favorite teaching experiences were teaching home-bound students in the Bloomsburg and Central Columbia Districts.
At the age of 15 she contracted spinal meningitis and was the first person known to have survived the disease.
Mary Anna was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was active with the Cub Scouts, Columbia County 4-H, the Red Hat Society and the Danjo Wheelers square dance club. She also was a member and officer of the Orangeville and Columbia County Homemaker's groups and the Orangeville Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Milton R. Kline, on May 26, 2008 and by an infant son, Luke in 1957.
Mary Anna was a devoted mother to her sons: J. Webster "Webb" Kline and his wife Stacey, with whom she resided in Bloomsburg and Wm. Herbert Kline, and his wife Connie, also of Bloomsburg. She was a loving "Grammy" to six grandchildren: Jacob Kline, Lewisburg; Abram Kline, Raleigh, N.C.; Kayla McCready and Cody Kline, Bloomsburg; Nicole Cregar, Benton; and Kamie Cregar, Danville. She was a proud "Great Grammy" to her six great-grandchildren: Hannah and Elijah, Bloomsburg; Kaylee and Paige, Benton; and Jeffrey and Parker, Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Intermen in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville. Friends may call at the Church on Wed. from 1-2 p. m.
