Mary Ruth Stewart, age 76, 239 E. Sixth Street, Bloomsburg, died at 12:20 a. m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 , at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient since being stricken ill at her home three weeks ago.
Born in Bloomsburg on June 18, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Roy V. and Ruby C. (Farnham) Stewart. She was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1954.
Mary Ruth was employed by the Press Enterprise newspaper in the newsroom for 35 years retiring in July 2000. She also had a lifelong affiliation with the family business, âStewartâs Home Bakeryâ, currently operated by her son John.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, for 65 years.
Mary Ruth spent her afternoons during the summer months at the Bloomsburg Town Swimming Pool for many years.
Surviving are her son, John L. Stewart, who resided with her; a daughter, Stephanie, wife of George Moore, Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren: Cameron, Collin and Aaron Moore; and a sister, Dolores J. Sneidman, Bloomsburg.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service in Wesley United Methodist Church, Market & West Third Street, Bloomsburg on Tuesday at 3 p. m. with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver officiating. Private interment will be made in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
