Mary C. Smith, age 84, formerly of 231 Vine Street, Danville, died at 2:17 p. m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Grandview Health Homes, Danville, where she resided since October, 2010.
Born in Danville on April 21, 1929, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Elsie M. (Deibert) Mason. She was a lifelong resident of Danville and a 1947 graduate of Danville High School.
Mary was employed by the Danville News for many years as a typesetter, retiring about 1991.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church Danville.
Mary was a quiet person who loved her home and time spent with her husband, James E. Smith, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to his death on May 19, 2013.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florence E. Mason on August 6, 1981 and two brothers: Woodward Mason on July 10, 1994 and John W. Mason on April 3, 1999.
Mary was the last of her immediate family and is survived only by her neighbor and caregiver, Douglas P. Lehmier, Danville, and several distant cousins.
Graveside services will be held today (Saturday) at 10:30 a. m. in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bloom Road, Danville, with the Rev. Rayvon Hilliard of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville.
