Mary N. Swisher, age 72, 412 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, died at 8:15 p. m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a courageous battle with leukemia, that was first diagnosed in July, 2015. She was a patient there for 37 days.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 22, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Norman H. and Gertude V. (Keefer) Halderman. A lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, she attended the Bloomsburg Public Schools.
Mary was employed by the Bloomsburg School District for 25 years in the cafeteria and also as a custodian.
She was a member of the First English Baptist Church.
Mary was fond of traveling and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Clair R. Swisher, on October 1, 2013; a son, Mark Raymond Swisher on March 27, 1979; and by a a step-sister, Betty Dollman.
Mary is survived by three children: Norman C. Swisher, Sr., and Christal J. Snyder, both of Bloomsburg; John P. Swisher, and his wife Jennifer, Hillsgrove; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Altomare, Bloomsburg; two step-sisters: Jean, wife of William Sorber, Bloomsburg; and Beatrice Weaver, Berwick; and a number of nephews and nieces
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. L. Lee Barnhardt officiating. Interment will follow in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. Visitation will be from 1-2 p. m. Thursday.
