MATTIE J. KITCHEN

Mattie J. Kitchen, age 81, 21 Valley Road, Berwick, died at 8:25 a. m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Orangeville, where she had been a patient.

She was born in Berwick on November 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Clarence and Martha (Petty) Hack. Her early life was spent in Berwick priot to moving to Randolph, New Jersey where she resided for many years before returning to Berwick. She was a 1946 graduate of Berwick High School.

Mattie was employed as a school bus driver, a postal worker and also at Litton, Industries, all in New Jersey, retiring in about 1993.

She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick. She also volunteered at the gift shop in the Berwick Hospital Center.

Surviving are three children: Robert W. Kitchen, Beaver Dams, N.Y.; Doris J. Snyder, Tinmouth, Vermont; David Kitchen, at home; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Dean R. Hack, and his wife Joy, Hunlock Creek and Carl Hack, San Francisco, Calif.

Memorial services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerhill Avenue & Pine Street, Berwick, with her pastor, Rev. Joseph F. Brady officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Camp Courage and Little Brave Hearts for Grieving Children Program, c/o Columbia-Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

Arrangements have been entrusted top the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
