Max K. Giger

Max K. Giger, age 95, 393 Bissets Lane, Bloomsburg, died at 10:28 a. m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, several hours after being admitted.

Born in Bloomsburg on February 6, 1921, he was a son of the late W. Leonard and Margaret (Patterson) Giger. He spent his entire life in the Bloomsburg area and attended the Bloomsburg Schools.

Max was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, in a number of positions, for 49 years, retiring in 1986.

He attended the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, Almedia, in his younger years. He also belonged to the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; Columbia Valley Moose Lodge 623; Fort McClure Post 804, VFW; Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; the Bloomsburg Fire Department; and the Bloomsburg Fireman's Relief Association.

Max served his country as a member of the US Army Air Force during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mildred Seeley on April 10, 2007; a brother Robert Giger; and three sisters: Eleanor Jones; Barbara Jumper; and June Riland.

Max is survived by three daughters: Donna, wife of Charles Beck, Fairview, Tex.; Ruth Ann Carter, wife of Joseph Viadella, Mansfield; Maxine., wife of Terry R. Werkheiser, Bloomsburg; five grandchildren: Burt Carter; Brian Carter; Kelly Ridgeway; Diane Werkheiser; Elizabeth Beck; 8 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Robert J. Eddinger officiating. There will be no calling hours.  Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion group.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
