Max B. Miller
Max B. Miller, age 92, 1274 Hemlock Street Bloomsburg, died at his home Saturday, January 19, 2013 and was pronounced dead at 10:09 p. m. He was in failing health for the past year.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 3, 1920, he was a son of the late Leland and Atta B. (Beagle) Miller. A lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, he was a 1938 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Max was last employed by the former Bloomsburg Mills, Inc., working there for 14 years until retiring in 1985. Earlier he was employed by the former Columbia Health & Accident Insurance Co. for two years and the former Magee Carpet Co. for 33 1/2 years. At all three jobs he was the data processing manager.
He was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for 75 years (1938 to 2013).
Max was a 50 plus year member of the Washington Lodge 265, F. & A. M. and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He also belonged to Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
He served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II in Europe and as a member of the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Max was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Miller.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth M. Thomas, with whom he celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on July 4, 2012; a son, Gary R. Miller, and his wife Bonnie, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Gwen S., wife of Thomas Nicholson, Lake Worth, Fla.; two grandchildren; seven step- great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavona G. Miller, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Wesley United Methodist Church, Market & W. Third Streets, Bloomsburg, with his pastor. Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with military honors by the combined VFW group. Friends may call at the Church from 1-2 p. m. Please use W. Third Street entrance.
