Meriam H. Leiby
Meriam H. Leiby, age 95, formerly of E. 12th Street, Bloomsburg, died at 3 p. m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where she was a guest for six days.
Born in Bloomsburg on July 13, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Carl L. and Myrtle (Thomas) Hock. Her entire life was spent in Bloomsburg and she was a 1934 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
She was last employed by Brownâs Catering Service, Danville and earlier was employed at the former Moyer Pharmacy, Bloomsburg.
Meriam was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Bloomsburg, where she was a member of the Women of Mission and the Polyanna Sunday school class. She also was very active in Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron and also as secretary for many years
She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America from early childhood until she was an adult; the Chanterâs Ladies, Wilkes-Barre; the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary; and assisted at Blood Mobiles. For many years she was a poll worker in her election precinct.
Meriam was preceded in death by her husband, Roy T. Leiby on Nov. 16, 2003; and by three sisters: her twin, Marie H. Snyder, on May 1, 1999; Beryl Abbott, on Sept. 5, 2008; and June M. Holloway, on May 29, 1980.
Surviving are four daughters: Joan M., wife of Edwin L. Jenks, Kennett Square; Dorothy A., wife of Martin Kelsey, Auburn, Neb.; Mary E., wife of Robert J. McHale, Scranton; Beatrice H., wife of Leonard F. Prosseda, Middleburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call st the Church on Friday from 1 - 2 p. m. Eastern Star memorial services will be held at 12:45 p. m.
