Michael J. Dower, Sr.

Michael J. Dower, Sr., age 75, of Valley Road, Bloomsburg, died Wednesday December 25, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Ashland on August 27, 1949, he was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Kalman) Dower. He was a 1967 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School and a 1970 graduate of the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. He resided in the Bloomsburg area since 1982.

Michael was employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company at their Bell Bend Power Plant for 37 years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He belonged to the Columbia Hunting Club, the 6 County Fireman Association, and the Fishing Creek Sportsman Association. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Kirelawich, with whom he celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on May 20, 2024; two sons, Michael J. Dower, Jr. and his wife, Tiffaney, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Charles J. Dower, and his wife, Amy, of Harleysville; daughter, Eve, wife of Jeff Ralston, of Bloomsburg; twelve grandchildren: Emily, Jack, Hunter, Christian, Will, Ella, Sabrina, Tyler, Jace, Lucas, Joseph, and Dakota; and two sisters, Barbara, wife of Robert Wasilewski, of Shenandoah and Carol, wife of Frank Kieres, of Barnesville.

Funeral services will be held on Monday December 30, 2024 at 10 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. or Monday after 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.
