Michael B. Valencik
Michael B. Valencik, age 84, 181 Millgrove Road, Catawissa, died at 6:58 a. m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for four days. He had been in failing health for five years.
Born in Cressona, Schuylkill County on April 13, 1929, he was a son of the late Michael and Wilhelmina (Bunge) Valencik. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Locust Township High School and attended Penn State University for two years.
Mike resided in York for over 50 years and also maintained a home in Roaring Creek Township.
He was involved in trucking for much of his life, owning his own truck and also working for other trucking companies. Later he owned the Reliable Trucking Co. and also the Good-Way Trucking Co., both in York.
Mike was a member of the Dry Hollow Gun Club, Millgrove; the National Rifle Association; and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In the 1950's he was a stock car driver at the Selinsgrove Speedway, where he was the track champion for several years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marianne R. Fink, with whom he celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary on Jan. 23, 2012; a daughter, Susan M. Stump and a son, Michael R. Valencik, and his wife Pattie, all of York; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Wolfgang, Bloomsburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Carl J. Valencik and Kenneth Valencik and by two sisters: Margaret Giger and Janice Fulginiti.
Memorial services will be held in January at the Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Millgrove, at a time to be announced.
