Mollie J. (Hippensteel) Harrell, 91, of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy) died peacefully at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024.
Born in Espy on August 17, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Lester L. and Ruth E. (Schaeffer) Hippensteel. She was a 1951 graduate of the former Scott Township High School and a 1955 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State College. She later received her M. S. degree from Shippensburg State College.
Mollie resided in Shippensburg from 1964 to 1990 when she returned to Espy. She taught elementary education at Scott Township High School for nine years and later taught in the Chambersburg School District from 1985 to 1983 when she retired.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy where she taught a Bible Class and served on the Church council. She also was a member of the Columbia County Historical Society and the Miquon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC).
Mollie enjoyed flowers, gardening, bird watching and traveling. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her only granddaughter, Karlie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Harrell, on Mar. 10, 2018; by two sisters: Eloise J. Hippensteel, Ph. D. on Feb. 16,1990 and Dorothy J. May on May 29, 1972; two brothers: Kenneth J. Hippensteel on Aug. 27,1976 and Howard J. Hippensteel, D. D. S. on Dec. 6, 2014.
Mollie is survived by her daughter, Heidi Harrell-Misselhorn, who resided with her, a son Timothy Harrell and his wife Hope of Nazareth, a granddaughter, Karlie Harrell of Nazareth and a several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sat. Dec. 21, 2024, at 11 a. m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy) with her pastor, Rev. Gordon E. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a. m. Interment will follow in Creveling Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church at the above address.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kiner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
