Monica L. Diltz, age 62, 15 Kingsbury Drive, Benton (Central) died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 30, 2020, while helping to clean St. Gabriel’s Church in Sugarloaf Township.
Born at the Bloomsburg Hospital on October 20, 1957, she was a daughter of the late John I. “Koon” and Ramona E. (McHenry) Diltz. She was a lifelong resident of Sugarloaf Township and a 1975 graduate of Benton High School.
Monica was employed as the manager of the Brass Pelican Restaurant in Elk Grove for 32 years, retiring in June, 2019.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Central. She was serving on the board of St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Association. She was a member of the History Buffs group which met at the Brass Pelican and was keenly interested in the history of Elk Grove, Jamison City and Central.
Monica is survived by her son, Christopher S. Diltz, and his fiance’ Kim Bray, Benton; a granddaughter, Ryleigh Bray who called her grandmother “Gram Cracker”, a brother, J. Steven Diltz, Benton; an uncle, Richard McHenry, Montgomery; three aunts: Rosemary Shultz, Bloomsburg, Audrey Frey, Benton, Sally Ann Griffith, Mountaintop, several cousins and numerous kids she raised while managing the Brass Pelican.
Private funeral services for her immediate family and close friends will be held with her pastor, Caleb Fritz, officiating. Interment will follow in Waller Cemetery. Viewing on Sunday from 3-5 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
