Nancy M. Riley, age 90, 21 Elm Street, Danville, died at 4:16 a. m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Grandview Nursing & Rehabilitation, Danville, where she was guest since June 28, 2016. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born in Mahoning Township, Montour County on May 15, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Edward V. and Anna (Keller) Fisk. She spent most of her life in the Danville area and was a 1944 graduate of Danville High School. She then attended the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College, where she graduated in 1949.
Nancy taught elementary school and also some middle school in the Danville School District for 33 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a longtime member of the Shiloh United Church of Christ, where she was involved with the food bank and also founded the "Book Worms" group.
Nancy was active in many things in her life time, including the Mahoning Township election board; former Danville Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Activities Director of the Washies Fire Company Playground; Friends of the Thomas Beaver Free Library; Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble; teaching swimming at the YMCA; and serving as a lifeguard at Sunnybrook Park. For over 20 years she traveled to Stratford, Canada for the annual Shakespeare Festival.
She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting such places as Antarctica; China, Europe; Ireland; Egypt; Canada; Hawaii; Alaska; and most of the other 48 states.
Surviving are her husband, Robert H. Riley, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 26, 2016; three children: Robert Fisk Riley, and his wife Julie, Danville; Patricia Ann Fallon, Danville; Richard Edward Riley and his partner, Lori Roberts, Catawissa; six grandchildren: Nancy Fallon; Andrew Fallon; Bethany Riley; Robert Riley; Micaela Riley; Keith Riley; one great-granddaughter, Isla Holt; and a brother, Frank Fisk, and his wife Mary Liz, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. am. in Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom Street, Danville, with her pastor, Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10- 11 a. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to either the Thomas Beaver Free Library, 205 Ferry St., Danville or to the Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom St., Danville, PA 17821.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home,. 715 Bloom Road, Danville.
