Norris I. Rhoads, age 85, 108 Hidden Hollow Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 3:45 a. m. Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center where he was a patient for one year. He was in failing health for several years.

Born on October 17, 1924 in Main Township, he was a son of the late John G. and Mary C. (Dalious) Rhoads. He spent his entire life on the farm where he was born.

Norris farmed his entire life and also served as a Main Township supervisor during the 1960's. He also was employed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forests and Waters in the 1960's and part of his job was manning the fire tower on the Catawissa Mountain. He was last employed by Kawneer Corp., where he worked for 13 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Mainville.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed runing his beagles and sitting under his maple tree.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty J. Boyer, with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on October 17, 2009; a son, Larry A. Rhoads, and his wife Deborah, Bloomsburg, two daughters: Debbie J., wife of Barry J. Cherrington, Bloomsburg and Karen A., wife of Clair Baney, Selinsgrove; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tamra B. Cherrington on October 7, 2001.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12 noon in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Stanley L. Bower officiating. Interment in Emanuel Reformed Cemetery, Main Township.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a. m. till 12 noon.
