OLLIE W. HUNDLEY
Ollie W. Hundley, age 77, 332 State Route 93, Orangeville, died at 10:20 a. m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where he was a patient for one month. He was in failing health for several years.
Born on July 3, 1932 in Scarbo, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles T. and Jessie (Christopher) Hundley.
While attending school in Scarbo he delivered newspapers. He later worked for the Kruger Food Market, Oak Hill, West Virginia as an assistant manager before enlisting in the US Army to serve during the Korean War. He received his basic training at Camp Pickett, Virginia and attained the rank of Seargeant while serving in the 322 Tank Battalion in Germany. He was a tank mechanic, operating a VTR Tank Recovery Tank.
Following his military service he moved to Michigan to work for the National Steel Corp., which was better known as the Great Lakes Steel, Corp., Ecorse, Mich. for many years, retiring August 23, 1980. He then moved near Millville to live with his parents and brothers in a home built from the ground up by he and his family. Following retirement, he assisted his brother William Hundley for several years traveling up and down the East coast with "Bills Traveling Arcade", setting up video games at fairs for many years until Bill retired. He then worked part-time for Giant Foods, Bloomsburg, as a night shift stockperson from 1985 to 1987.
Ollie was a member of the Scarbo Baptist Church, Scarbo, West Va.; the Masonic Lodge in Trenton, Mich. and the Consistory in Detroit, Mich.
He was a past commander of American Legion Post 426, Trenton, Mich.; a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; and a life member of Ft. Rickett's Post 8317, VFW, Benton.
Ollie loved pets of all kinds, his old cars and cars in general, as well as keeping up with friends. He was always handing out candy and treats to people he came in contact with in his travels.
He was preceded in death by his brothers William A. Hundley, on January 23, 1998 and Thomas M. Hundley on October 10, 2001.
The last of his immediate family, he is survived by a nephew, William C. "Chuck" Hundley, and his wife Brenda L., with whom he last resided; a great-nephew, Andrew Hundley; a great-niece, Nicole Hundley; and two great-great nephews, Landon and Kaiden Hundley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the High Lawn Funeral Home, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, West Va. followed by interment with military honors in the High Lawn Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10-11 a. m.
