OREN S. BIRD
Oren S. Bird, age 93, 815 East Eighth St., Bloomsburg, died at his home early Sunday, November 7, 2010 and was pronounced dead at 6:41 a. m. He was in failing health for the past year.
Born in Mayberry Township, Montour County on December 3, 1916, he was a son of the late Edward and Ruth (Loreman) Bird. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1938.
Oren was a graduate of Danville High School in 1934.
He was self employed as a truck driver doing deliveries for Sears, Roebuck & Co. from 1951 until 1978 when he retired.
Oren was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
He served with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, receiving several medals. He was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Oren was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed playing golf in the summers and was an avid snowmobiler, traveling out West on a number of occaisions to enjoy his hobby.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, the former Elva Mae Haines on March 16, 2008; by a sister, Rheda Bird; and by two brothers: Paul Bird and Fred Bird.
Surviving are two sons: Doyle O. Bird, and his wife Linda and Dennis L. Bird, and his fiance' Theresa, all of Bloomsburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth Bird, Steelton; Thelma Fissel, Mechanicsburg; Jane, wife of Jerre Robert Broadt, Lancaster area; and a brother, David Bird, and his wife Arlene, Catawissa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with military honors by the combined VFW group.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thurs. from 1-2 p. m.
