Patsy A. Smathers, age 77, 119 Turnerâs High View Road, Bloomsburg, died at 3:55 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice At Maria Hall, Danville. She was in failing health for the past 10 years.
Born in Bloomsburg on July 3, 1937, she was the only child of the late Charles A and Leona A (Kile) Turner. Her entire life was spent in the Bloomsburg area and she was a 1955 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, where she participated in the chorus. She also attended the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College for two years.
Patsy managed the former Turnerâs High View Camp Ground in Mount Pleasant Township for 35 years, retiring in 2005. She was active with the Columbia Montour Tourist Promotion Agency and served on the board of directors for many years.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed music. Her favorite television programs were Jeopardy and NCIS.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Marie Smathers on January 31, 1971.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Jule Smathers, with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage on October 10, 2014; a son, Michael S. Smathers, and his companion Cathie Fruit, Bloomsburg; a grandson, Joshua Morris, and his wife Amber; and two great grandchildren: Tyler Morris and Emily Morris, all of Millville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, presiding. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m.
