Paul R. Coxe, age 80, 93 Avon Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 3:09 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient for 11 days.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 23, 1933, he was a son of the late Richard and Carolla (Watts) Coxe. He was a 1951 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, and resided in the Bloomsburg area his entire life.
Paul began working as a substitute mail carrier for the US Postal Service in 1957, was promoted to Town Superintendent of Mails in 1969, and retired as Postmaster of Bloomsburg after over 30 years of service about 1990.
Paul served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era.
He was a member of the Washington Lodge 265, F & AM; Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273; the American Legion; Retired Postmasterâs Association and a former member of the Bloomsburg Kiwanis Club.
He was an avid golfer in his earlier years; a Penn State fan, and loved to travel.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, the former Beverly Winner on March 12, 1993.
Surviving is his companion of 12 years, Grace Jaskiewicz, at home; two daughters: Judy A., wife of Anthony W. Mahoney, Danville and Deborah A., wife of Andy Webb, Berwick; six grandchildren: Kelle Meyers, Shawna Laughlin, Morgan Kipple, Craig Webb, Jordan Webb and Dr. Nicholas Mahoney; four great grandchildren: Collin Meyers, Troy Sissenstein, Hannah Kipple and Connor Kipple; and a brother, Richard Coxe, wife Maxine, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Robert J. Ettinger, pastor of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, Almedia, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge with military honors by the combined VFW group. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday 10-11 a.m. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Elks memorial services at 8:15 p. m.
