Paul A. Merook, age 70, 61 Three Springs Road, Stillwater, died at his home at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Coaldale, Schuylkill County on November 30, 1943, he was a son of the late Leo Merook and the late Elizabeth (Williams) Minalda. A 1962 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School, he resided in Mahanoy City and Barnesville until moving to the Stillwater area in 1979.
Paul held various employment positions with PPL for 33 years, retiring as an electrical foreman in 1999.
He served with the US Navy for four and a half years.
Paul was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Benton and the Knights of Columbus.
He liked all sports and the outdoors, and used to golf and do bench weight lifting in earlier years. He also loved to go camping with his grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Merook.
Surviving is his wife, the former Dorothy J. Mocknick, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on May 25, 2014; three children: Pamela Merook, Catawissa; Michelle Merook, Long Beach, Cal.; and Paul Merook, Benton; three grandchildren: Logan, Alexa and Ross Crowl; and a step-sister: Sarah Walton, Mahanoy City.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 300 Mendenhall Lane, Benton, with his pastor, Rev. David M. Hereshko officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. Monday.
