Paul M. Strausser
Paul M. Strausser, age 86, 280 1/2 East Eighth Street, Bloomsburg, died at 4:35 a. m. Saturday March 16, 2012 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for two days.
Born in Catawissa on July 25, 1926, he was a son of the late Paul K. and Ida (Johnson) Strausser. His parents died an early age and he was raised by his aunt, Mary Chambers.
Paul resided in Bloomsburg since 1955 and spent his early life in Nescopeck where he was a 1944 graduate of the former Nesopeck High School.
He was last employed by Bloomsburg University where he worked in the maintenance department fot 18 years, retiring in 1988. Earlier he worked at the former TRW, Inc., plant in Danville.
Paul was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Nescopeck and a social member of the Maria Assunta Club, Berwick. He also belonged to the Bloomsburg Fire Dept., after having been a member of the former Winona Fire Co. for many years, and the Bloomsburg Firemans Relief Association.
He was an avid golfer and baseball player, playing professional baseball in the Coastal Plains League in North Carolina for several years. He later was a player, coach and umpire in the Tri-County League and also in the former North Branch League.
Paul also was a coach and umpire for the Bloomsburg Little League for many years and a fan of the New York Yankees; Alabama football; Kentucky basketball and Bloomsburg University athletics.
Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a life member of both the Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
He was preceded in death by a son, Peter Eric Strausser in 1964 and by two sisters: Beatrice Sherman and Gladys Behrens.
Paul is survived by his wife, the former E. Lucille Fausey of Benton, with whom he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2013; two daughters: Nina A., wife of Douglas Schosker, Osceloa, Ind. and Molly K., wife of Vincent Sidoti, Hunlock Creek; a son, Paul M. "Mick" Strausser, Jr., and his wife Suzanne, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren: Bryan Schosker, and his wife Megan; Nicholas Schosker; Dylan and Kylie Sidoti; Brooks and Madison Strausser;; a nephew, Rev. Drue Sherman and his wife Carol; and a niece, Jan, wife of Don DeYoung.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Officiating will be his friend, the Rev. Larry H. Kreischer, pastor of the Beach Haven Charge of theUnited Methodist Church and his nephew, Rev. Drue Sherman. Interment in Free Will Cemetery, Roaring Creek Township with military honors by the combined VFW group.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p. m.
