Phillip D. Shultz
Phillip D. Shultz, age 72, Third & Market Streets, Benton, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, following a two car accident on U. S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on May 24, 1940, he was a son of the late Kermit J. and Dorothy N. (Sutliff) Shultz. He was a life long resident of Benton and graduated from Benton Area High School in 1959.
Phillip was a plumber, pipefitter, boilermaker and welder who worked through the Boilermaker's Union on many jobs. He was especially proud of having been employed in the construction of the Susquehanna Steam Electric plant at Bell Bend, where his son is now employed. Following his retirement, he continued to do plumbing repairs in the Benton area for friends and also was very meticulous in doing lawn care and shrubbery trimming for residents of the Benton area.
He attended St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, Benton. A proud mason, he was a member of the former Benton Lodge 667, F & AM for many years until it merged with Oriental Lodge 460, F & AM, Orangeville, receiving his 50 year membership pin several years ago. He was currently in the process of joining Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, along with his son.
Phillip was a 45 year member of the Chimney Stack Rod & Gun Club, Red Rock. He was a strong supporter of the Benton Fire Company and Ambulance Association and also a frequent blood donor. He was a social member of Ft. Rickett's Post 8317, VFW and of the Washies Fire Co., Danville. His favorite refreshment was Jack Daniels and he enjoyed dancing, hunting and cars, especially Chevrolets. He was a "get to know you" type of person who would do anything for a friend. He was a proud worker and especially proud of his children and grandchildren, who he considered his greatest achievement.
Surviving are his wife, the former Susan M. Broich, with whom he celebrated his 43rd wedding anniversary on October 11, 2012; a daughter, Caroline N. Shultz, Harrisburg; a son, Peter B. Shultz, and his wife Sharon, Bloomsburg; three grandchildren: Cole Leo, Phillip James and Catherine Anderson; and a sister, Nancy Jo, wife of William Marsden, Elizabethtown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton, with the Rev. Andrew M. France, Archdeacon Emertius officiating. Interment in the Benton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. Oriental Lodge 460, F & AM will conduct memorial services at 8 p. m.
