Phyllis R. Bloom
Phyllis R. Bloom, age 89, 2580 Tower Road, Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, and was pronounced dead at 9:05 a. m. She was in failing health for two years.
Born in Northumberland on November 3, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Fannie (Yount) Zettles. She resided in Bloomsburg much of her lifetime and was a 1942 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and also attended the former Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing.
Phyllis was employed at the former Dent Nursing Home, Lightstreet, early in her life and later assisted her husband at the Bloom Brothers Floor & Wallcovering Store on Main Street, Bloomsburg.
A longtime member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Phyllis enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family.
Surviving is her husband, Warren E. âBarneyâ Bloom, with whom she would have observed her 68th wedding anniversary on the day she died,: a daughter, Darla A., wife of Gordon R. Acornley, Bloomsburg; a son, Robert W. Bloom, at home; two grandchildren: Gordon R. Acornley, Jr., and his wife Amy, Benton and Gretchen, wife of Matthew Mills, Bloomsburg; and five great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers: David Zettles, Robert Zettles and Russell Zettles.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 101 E. Fifth Street, Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Gary Reichenbach, retired minister, officiating. There will be no viewing at the Church.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Stret, Bloomsburg. The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the memorial fund of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 101 E. Fifth Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
