Phyllis P. (Deaner) Fisher

Phyllis Pauline (Deaner) Fisher, age 86, of Rupert Drive, Bloomsburg died peacefully early Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, at the Bonham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Stillwater, where she was a guest for two and a half years. Her death followed a courageous 15 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Bloomsburg on April 30, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Florence (Johnson) Deaner. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1955 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She attended the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College for two years.

Phyllis worked at a number of jobs, but is best known for assisting her husband at the former Texas Lunch on Main Street in Bloomsburg which they owned for 22 years before retiring in 1997.

She was a faithful member of St. John’s Community Church in Catawissa where she served as the choir director for 50 years, taught the nursery class and the kindergarten class for many years. In her younger years she was a talented oil painting artist.

Phyllis was a longtime member of the Bloomsburg Chapter 279, Order of Eastern Star and a past worthy matron of the chapter. She was an original share holder of the Bloomsburg Fair Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Jacqueline Deaner and Melvina Carl.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles A. Fisher, Jr., two sons: Brian P. Fisher, at home and Colton L. Fisher and his wife Sharon, of Bloomsburg, a daughter, Holly, wife of Mark Dawson of Millville; a granddaughter Kristen wife of Sean Houge of Danville; two grandsons, Corey James Fisher and his wife Sarah of Bloomsburg and Colton A. Fisher and his wife Lindsay of Saylorsburg; six grandchildren; a brother Frank Deaner and his wife Kay of Lebanon and a brother in law, Robert Fisher of Bloomsburg.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with services to be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Charles Swank, officiating. Viewing will be Wednesday from 6-8 p. m. Eastern Star memorial services will be at 6 p. m.

The family would like to thank her niece, Darla Beltz, who cared for her at her home for two years before she entered the nursing home. They also would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Bonham Nursing for the exceptional care they provided Phyllis for two and a half years. They treated her like family.
