Ralph K. Derr, Sr., age 68, 103 E. Pebble Lane, Orangeville (Stony Brook Village) died at his home at 6:45 p. m. Thursday, August 6, 2009.
Born in Bloomsburg on August 19, 1940, he was a son of the late Jesse and Sarah (Gray) Derr. He resided in Stony Brook Circle since April and previously lived in Berwick for many years.
He was employed as a truck driver by the Gold Star Trucking Co., Bloomsburg from 1965 to 1999 when he retired due to health problems. Previously he was employed by the former Streater's Greenhouses and by the Watsontown Trucking Co.
Ralph enjoyed spending time on his C-B radio where he was known as "Hound Dog".
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary F. Gerst, with whom he celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary on April 22, 2009; three daughters: Brenda L., wife of Rick L. Smethers, Berwick; Maryann, wife of Daniel Baker, Washingtonville; Barbara Ann Hanna, Berwick; a son, Ralph K. Derr, Jr, and his wife Ann, Washingtonville; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Derr, and his wife Theresa, Catawissa; and a sister, Barbara Ann Derr, Bloomsburg.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 1-2 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Private graveside services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with the Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of the Hendrickson-Mooresburg United Methodist Churches officiating.
