RAYMOND A. SHAFFER

Raymond A. Shaffer, age 83, 3391 Shaffer Road, Bloomsburg, died at 12:20 p. m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Berwick Hospital where he was a patient for four days. Previously he resided at the Orangeville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for three years.

Born in Scott Township on October 2, 1926, he resided there his entire life. He was a son of the late Roy C. and Lillian (Sitler) Shaffer.

Ray was a 1944 graduate of the former Scott Township High School.

He was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg for more than 45 years, retiring in 1991. He also was a liflelong farmer.

Ray was a faithful member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, and served as an usher for more than 50 years. He also was a member of the Bloomsburg Fair Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 31 years, the former Marjorie Mayer, on November 14, 1989; by two brothers: Doyle Shaffer and C. Earl Shaffer; and by a sister, Pearl Shaffer.

Surviving are four siblings: Mae L. Shaffer, Rolland O. Shaffer, Grace Shaffer, Howard Shaffer, and his wife Betty, all of Bloomsburg and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call from 10-11 a. m.
