Rebecca "Becky" Boughter, age 87, 145 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Balanced Care At Bloomsburg health care facility where she was a patient for three years. She was in failing health for the past year.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 19, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Hurley and Helen (Yost) Powlus. She was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg and a 1942 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Becky was last employed by Danville State Hospital as an aide, working there for 18 years before retiring about 1986. Earlier she was employed b y the Bloomsburg School District in the high school cafeteria and by the former Bell Telephone Co. before that.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.
Becky was active in her high school class gatherings until the onset of her medical problems. Early in life she was a Cub Scout Den Mother when her sons were involved with scouting.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Hurley Powlus, Jr. and by three sisters: Ruth Halderman, Elizabeth Rake and Rachel Mutzabaugh.
She is survived by her husband, William G. Boughter, with whom she celebrated her 67th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2011; two sons: Steven G. Boughter, and his wife Sherry, Northumberland; Brian W. Boughter, Henderson, Nev., a grandson, Wyatt Boughter, and his wife Kristin, Phoenixville; a granddaughter, Kylie Boughter, Etters; two brothers: John Powlus, and his wife Marguerite, Bloomsburg; Harry Powlus, and his wife Joan, Delaware Water Gap; and a sister, Alvaretta, wife of Graden E. Swank, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
Friends may call on Sun. from 3-5 p.m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg or on Monday after 1p.m. at the parlor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
