REUEL J. HARTMAN
Reuel J. Hartman, age 86, formerly of Second Street, (Almedia) Bloomsburg, died at 8:40 p. m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Bloomsburg Health Care where he was a resident since August, 2009.
Born in Bloomsburg on June 29, 1925, he was the only child of the late William C. and Maggie T. (Jackson) Hartman. He spent his entire life in the Bloomsburg area and was a 1946 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Reuel was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. for over 30 years and was last employed at Bloomsburg Carpet Industries, Inc., retiring about 1990.
A lifelong member of St. Matthew Luther Church, he also belonged to Washington Lodge, F & A.M.; Caldwell Consistory; and the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.
Reuel was an avid post card collector and spent his retirement years selling the cards at various antique shows throughout the area. He was proud of the fact that he was a conributor to a pictoral history of the Susquehanne Valley which was published by the Press Enterprise. He also participated in the Bloomsburg Antique Study group for many years.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in Puerto Rico.
Reuel was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. (Hartman) Hartman on Nov. 2, 1999 and by a daughter, Paula H. Yoder on Feb. 22, 2001.
Surviving is a son, Alan C. Hartman, and his wife Penni, Middleburg, Fla.; two granddaughters: Maegen Satcher and Rebecca Hartman; and four great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Brianna, Aidan and Jaycee. He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a. m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment will be private for the family in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.
