Rev. Alton H. Taylor, age 78, last residing at Medford Leas Retirement Community, Medford, N.J. died there late Thursday, January 14, 2010 after being in failing health for two years.
Born in Passaic, N.J. on September 7, 1931, he was the only child of the late Alton P. and Christine E. (Holmes) Taylor, both Bloomsburg natives.
He attended Nutley High School before graduating from Newark Academy, Newark, N.J.
He later attended the West Virginia Wesleyan College for two years before entering the US Army where he served for two years during the Korean War. Following his military service he completed his B.A. degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He received his M. of Divinity degree from Philadelphia Divinity School in 1962.
Father Taylor was ordained to the Priesthood in 1962 at Christ Episcopal Church, East Orange, N.J. He served a number of Churches in North Jersey before becoming Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Harrison, N. J. where he served for 16 years, retiring in 1985.
He and his family maintained a summer cottage at Laporte since 1944.
Surviving is a foster son, Timothy R. Talbot, and his wife Laura, Effort, PA; four foster grandchildren and several cousins.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a. m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, E. Main & Iron Streets, Bloomsburg by Rev. Marjorie A. Menaul. Interment in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.
Friends may call at the Church from 10-11 a. m.
