Richard J. “Dick” Bennett, age 72, 3510 Second Street, Bloomsburg (Almedia), died at his home at 11:30 p. m., Sunday, May 24, 2015, while under the care of  Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice.  He had been in ill health since October, 2013.

Born in Bloomsburg on February 2,, 1943, he was a son of the late Alfonzo and Hazel (Dalious) Bennett. He was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1962 graduate of Central Columbia High School.

Dick was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 2008.    .

He was a member of the Orangeville Sportsman’s Club; Fishingcreek  Sportsman’s Club, Benton; and the Union County Sportsman’s Club.

Dick’s passions were his grandchildren,  fishing, fly tying and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Abe Bennett and a sister, Dawn Campbell.

Surviving are his wife, the former Fay A. Watts with whom he celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary on August 20, 2014; two sons: Steven Bennett, and his wife Sue, Orangeville and Daniel Bennett, and his wife Sonya, Land of Lakes, Fla.; six grandchildren: Preston, Kelsey, Zane, Zack, Parker and Ethan Bennett; five brothers: Elmer Bennett, and his wife Dawn and Donald Bennett, and his wife Gladys, all of Lightstreet; Larry Bennett, and his wife Janet, Bloomsburg; Frank Bennett, and his wife Darlene “Dee”, Almedia; Gary Bennett, Espy; and three sisters: Shirley Showers, Berwick; Ann, wife of William “Bill” Winn, Almedia; Deb, wife of Phil Makar, Bloomsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Columbia Montour Hospice Chaplain, Rev. R. Christian Dunlap officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Viewing on Thursday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
