Richard William Donald, age 61, of 490 Scenic Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at his home at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, after having been in failing health for seven years.
Born in Coaldale on January 5, 1953, he was the son of Richard J. âDickâ Donald, with whom he resided, and the late Marie (Perbetsky) Donald.
Richard moved to Bloomsburg from Manhattan, Kansas in 1968, and went on to graduate from Bloomsburg High School in 1971. All four years of high school, he was on the varsity football and wrestling teams. He also participated in the all-state chorus in Kansas and in Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 and a Master of Science degree from Bloomsburg University and completed course work for a doctorate from Temple University, Philadelphia.
Richard was an elementary teacher in the Millville School District for 40 years, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg; Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA); and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Richard loved the outdoors, traveling, and history. He loved his family, and will be missed by family and friends alike.
Surviving in addition to his father is a son, Richard J. Donald, and a granddaughter, Lily Marie Donald, both of Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his friend and former fellow teacher, Rev. Allen F. Acor, officiating. Interment in Sky-View Memorial Park at Hometown. Friends may call Friday from 9-10 a.m.
