Richard L. “Dick” Fornwald, age 83, 2480 Tower Road, Blooms
burg died at his home at 5:45 a. m. Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was in ill health for the past three and a half years.
Born in Bloomsburg on September 18, 1934, he was a son of the late Paul H., Sr. and Pauline R. (Millard) Fornwald.. He resided in Bloomsburg his entire life and lived on West Main Street for 44 years. Many will remember him for the flowers he planted annually by his front porch and also by the curb. He was a 1952 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Dick was employed by Kawneer, Corp. for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He also operated food stands at the Bloomsburg Fair for 36 years and owned Ivey’s Greenhouse on Barton Street for nine years.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He also was a life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 and the former Columbia County Moose Lodge 623. Dick was a member of the former Friendship Fire Co., now part of the Bloomsburg Fire Department, for many years. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Paul H. Fornwald, Jr., Dale E. Fornwald; Myron D. Fornwald; and five sisters:: Phyllis Hutton; Hazel Makarovich, Dawn Fornwald; Betty Latchford; and Jessie Drumheller.
Surviving are his wife, the former Donna Carl, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on June 23, 2017; a son, Rick L. Albertson, and his wife Leah, Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Aleisha Albertson; a grandson, Ricky L. Albertson, II; three great-grandchildren: Ian Albertson, Draven Peters, Lonna Albertson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with military honors by the combined veterans group. The viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p. m.
