Richard W. "Pete" Harner
Richard W. "Pete" Harner, age 77, 32 Sunset Lane, Catawissa, died unexpecedly at his home at 11:30 p. m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
Born in Locust Township on November 11, 1936, he was a son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Hittle) Harner. He spent his entire life in the Catawissa. area.
Pete was employed at the former Heinz Pet Food Plant, Lime Ridge, for many years until retiring in December, 2000.
He was a member of the Glad Tidings Assemblies of God Church, Bloomsburg.
Pete loved his animals, especially the cats and his dog.
He was a veteran of service with the US Navy during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, the former Diane P. Brassington, with whom he celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary on October 22, 2013; a son, Timothy W. Harner, Milton; two daughters: Vicki, wife of David Runge, and Penny, wife of Tony Styer, both of Catawissa; six grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter;
three sisters: Betty, wife of Donald Evans, Bloomsburg; Laura, wife of Dale Everett, Lightstreet; Anna, wife of David Brown, Benton; three brothers: Clarence Harner, and his wife Helen, Millville; Carl Harner, Sr., Catawissa; and Ralph Harner, and his wife Diane, Danville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Pete was preceded in death by a brother, Marlin Harner and a sister, Alice Becker.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 3 p. m. in the Glad Tidings Assemblies of God Church, 706 Central Road, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, John D. Kolenda officiating. A viewing will be held at the church from 1-3 p. m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
