Richard L. “Dick” Roadarmel, age 87, of Lightstreet Road, Bloomsburg passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024.

Born in Bloomsburg on December 1, 1937, he was a son of the late Harry A., Sr. and Helen F. (Summers) Roadarmel. He was a 1954 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1961 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

Dick served with the U. S. Navy from November, 1954 to October, 1957 on the U. S. S. Stephen Potter.

He taught high school business courses for five years at Rushville, New York.

Dick’s passion was training and working with standard bred race horses. He began working for Ray DuBois on the fair circuit as a 12year old groom. For many years he managed the U. C. C. Steele Horse farm at Buckhorn in addition to training his own horses at the Bloomsburg Fair grounds.

He trained Sea Pine, the fastest three year old pacing filly in 1978 and received the trainer of the year in 1978 also.

Dick was one of the lucky few who loved what he did and therefore never worked a day in his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, whom he married on January 3, 1959, Marie M. (Tomko) Roadarmel on November 1, 2022 and a brother, Harry A. Roadarmel, Jr., on December 24, 2003.

Dick is survived by two daughters: Lori, wife of Karl L. Anderson of Danville and Cindy A., wife of Steven W. Beyer of Orangeville; six grandchildren: J. R. Anderson, Abby Creveling, Sara Chapin, Katy Shalongo, Derek Beyer and Jared Beyer; five great-grandchildren: Ty, Trey, Reagan, Kennedy, Jack and Riley; a sister, Sharon, wife of D. Frayer Page of Muncy; a brother, Thomas M. Rodarmel of Crosby, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
