Richard J. Shoemaker, age 83, 10 E. Tenth St., Bloomsburg, died at 10:05 a. m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at the home of his daughter, Alicia Stackhouse, 476 W. Main St., Bloomsburg. He had been in failing health for the past year.
Born in Bloomsburg on April 18, 1933, he was the only child of the late Glenn F. and Mary M. (McCormick) Shoemaker. For over 50 years he resided on a farm he owned at Derr’s and returned to Bloomsburg several years ago.
Richard was employed by the RCA, Co., Williamsport, repairing television sets and other electronics, for 25 years. He was last employed at the former Wolfey’s Miniature Golf and Go carts on Route 11 where he maintained and repaired the electronic equipment.
He was a member of the Jackson Baptist Church at Derr’s, the Bloomsburg Fair Association and a C-B Radio Club.
Richard’s main hobby and activity was as a volunteer at the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society, where he spent many hours.
He was a US Army Veteran, serving in Korea during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Adeline Shoemaker on March 8, 1965 and by a son-in-law, Jeffrey L. Stackhouse on June 6, 2015.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie E. Sweet, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 29, 2017; a son, Franklin J. Shoemaker, and his wife Denise, Unityville; a daughter, Alicia M. Stackhouse, Bloomsburg; four grandsons: Matthew A. Stackhouse, and his fiance’ Amber Kocher, Bloomsburg; Donald W. Renninger, Ohio; Matthew D. Renninger, Lairdsville; Brandon J. Stackhouse, Unityville; and three great grandsons: Glenn Stackhouse, Brandon Kocher and Gabriel Stackhouse.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017, at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Walter E. Minto, Jr., officiating. Interment in Old Rosemont Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 1-2 p. m.
