Richard L. Ward, Sr., age 88, formerly of Avon Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 10:19 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Geisinger Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, Danville, where he was admitted Monday after being a patient in Geisinger Medical Center.
Born in Bloomsburg on November 6, 1925, he was a son of the late Alfred L. and Alice A. (Stadler) Ward. A lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, he graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1943
Richard was employed for many years by Merck, Sharp and Dome at their Cherokee Plant in Riverside, retiring about 1990. He also worked in the ticket office at the Bloomsburg Fair for many years.
He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg.
Richard served in Guam with the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Valley Of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
He was preceded in death by two wives: the former Odean Lehman on May 28, 1964 and the former Ruth I. (Hess) Brooking on May 13, 2007; by a son, Thomas L. Ward on May 20, 1966; and a brother, Harry A. Ward in 2013.
Richard is survived by a son, Richard L. Ward, Jr., and his wife Mary, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Carol, wife of David G. Gleyze, Columbia, Tenn.; four grandchildren: Senie Odean Criado, Maricka Pat Armstrong, David G. Gleyze, Jr, Carrie Seabolt; and 13 great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
At the request of the deceased there will not be any funeral services or viewing.
