ROBERT  M.  BEAGLE

Robert M. Beagle, age 85, 29 Shawnee Road, Bloomsburg, died at 5:15 p. m. Sat. Aug. 11, 2012 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest since Tuesday.

Born in Bloomsburg on Oct. 4, 1926, he was a son of the late Ralph H. Beagle and Kathleen (Farley) Beagle-Walker.

A lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area, he attended the former Scott Township Schools through 9th grade and went on to graduate from Lincoln Preparatory School, Philadelphia in 1943 and from Temple University, Philadelphia in 1951.

Bob was employed by Milco Industries, Inc., Bloomsburg for 40 years and was the Vice-President of Finance and Controller when he retired in 1991.

He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg for 61 years.  Active in many community organizations, he was a member for over 50 years and a  former president of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club; Past-President of the Bloomsburg Area Chamber of Commerce; former director of the Columbia County United Way; former director of the Bloomsburg Hospital Corp.;  former director of the former First Eastern Bank advisory board; life member of the National Association of Accountants; and the American Institute of Management Accountants. He also was a life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436 and the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.

Bob was an avid golfer, having been a  a member of the former Bloomsburg Country Club and one of the earliest members of the Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville. He was a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Bob enjoyed reading and music, both popular and classical.

He served with the U. S. Army during World War II from 1945 - 1946 in the Pacific Theatre, serving on Okinawa Island and also in  Korea with the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 7th Infantry Division.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine Albertson, with whom he celebrated a 61st wedding anniversary on Nov. 25, 2011; a son, Scott R. Beagle, and his wife Kathie, Glenmoore; two daughters: Sharon K., wife of Dan A. Ahearn, Milford and Stacy L., wife of Robert Zorbaugh, Lancaster; a grandson, Ryan C. Beagle, Wynnewood; and a sister, Beverly Baker, Castle Rock, Colo.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.  Friends may visit with the family from 2-3 p.m.
