Bloomsburg Native, Retired Hospital Executive and Active Community Volunteer

Robert Eugene Fisher, 72 of Berwick (Salem Twp.), joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the 27th day of March 2023.

Born 1950 in Bloomsburg, PA, he was one of the older of two sets of twins of the late Jack Marion and Edna Masters Fisher. He married Jill Ann Clausen of Berwick in 1980. 

A graduate of Bloomsburg Area High School Class of 1968, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Bloomsburg State College and his Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Wilkes College. He also earned Life Fellowship distinction in both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. 

Throughout his life, he was an active volunteer for numerous community services and a 12+ gallon blood donor. During his younger years, he was a First Aid and CPR Instructor for the American Red Cross, a firefighter/EMT and Life member of Friendship Fire Co. No. 1 (Bloomsburg Fire Department), Bloomsburg Fire Police Captain, an EMT/Rescue Tech with the Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association, and firefighter/EMT with Reliance Fire Co. (Berwick).

He also was an accomplished clarinetist, concertmaster of the Bloomsburg Area High School and Bloomsburg State College bands, President of the BSC Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi (national band fraternity), and long-time member of the Catawissa Military Band. 

After college and a year with the PA Auditor General’s Department, he began an active 45 year executive career in health care appointed as the first Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of The Bloomsburg (PA) Hospital; CFO for various hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma for Hospital Affiliates International, Nashville; CFO of the Berwick (PA) Hospital Center; CFO of the Bradford (PA) Regional Medical Center; President and CEO of the Brookville (PA) Hospital; CFO for the Hospital Division of Regent Surgical Health, Chicago; CFO of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY; Chief Operating Officer for the Internal Medicine Group of Medicor Associates, Erie, PA; and a healthcare consultant and Interim Leader through his firm of Rx for Hospitals, and other healthcare consulting firms which took him to locations as far away as Alaska.  He retired as CFO from Coquille (Oregon) Valley Hospital in 2018.

During his professional career, he was an active member of the Hospital and Healthcare Association of PA, and the Hospital Council of Western PA.  He served on the Boards of Directors for the Bradford (PA) City Redevelopment Authority, Bradford Economic Development Corporation, Bradford Area School District, Bradford Creative and Performing Arts Center, Beacon Light Behavioral Health Systems (Bradford), Community Blood Bank of Northwestern PA (Erie), Associated Clinical Laboratories/Clinical Pathology Institute/Tri-State Regional Associates (Erie), Deerfield Behavioral Health Network (Erie, PA) Mountain Healthcare Alliance (DuBois, PA), EMMCO East (DuBois, Pa) Critical Access Hospital Consortium (State College, PA), North Central PA Regional Planning and Development Commission (Ridgway, PA), Jefferson County (PA) Economic Development Council, Jefferson County Industrial Development Authority, WRC Senior Services (Brookville), United Fund of Brookville, New Hope Community (Loch Sheldrake, NY) and the Upper Delaware Council (Narrowsburg, NY).  

He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post #273 (Bloomsburg), the Firemen’s Association of the State of PA, Life member of the Bloomsburg Firemen’s Relief Association, Life Member of the NRA and a volunteer for AGAPE in Bloomsburg. He was a former thrift store volunteer and Treasurer of Berwick Senior Citizens, Inc., and former volunteer at the For Neighbors in North East (4-N.I.N.E.) Thrift Store (Erie County, PA).  He also was a former member of Caldwell Consistory (Bloomsburg), Knapp Lodge #462 F&AM (Berwick) and Moose Lodge #1266 (Cordova, Alaska). He recently joined the board of the McBride Memorial Library, Berwick, PA.

An active Partner, Life Group and Security Team member of LCBC (Lives Changed by Christ) Church Columbia-Montour Campus, he was baptized as a follower of Christ on April 2, 2017. 

Surviving him are Jill Ann, his beloved wife of over 42 years, his three sons: Andrew Michael (husband of April), North Wales, PA; Aaron Robert (husband of Jeannine), Pittsburgh; and Jonathan David (husband of Gretchen), Wausau, WI; five grandchildren: Brayden and Lily, North Wales; Lorien, Kaden and Raylen, Pittsburgh; twin brother James H. Fisher (husband of Jane), Dauphin, PA; brother William S. Fisher (husband of Lynn), Bloomsburg, and William’s twin sister Catherine J. Fisher, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
