Robert E. Franklin, age 98, of 23 E. Sunny Drive (Stony Brook Circle), Orangeville, died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Huntington Twp., Luzerne County on October 22, 1916, he was the son of the late Amos and Helen (Phillips) Franklin. A 1934 graduate of Huntington Mills High School, he resided in Southdale until moving to Arizona in 1984; and eventually settled in Stony Brook Circle, Orangeville in April of 1989.
Robert was a farmer and huckster, and for over 50 years he took the vegetables he grew to Wilkes-Barre to sell.
Robert was a member of Town Hill United Methodist Church, and former secretary of Dodson Cemetery Association for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna M. Harvey on September 19, 1988; a daughter, Janet K. Whitenight in February of 2006; and a sister, Margaret J. Franklin on August 21, 2014.
Surviving are three grandchildren: Tammy, wife of Mark Schaeffer, Orefield; Misty, wife of Rick Nagata, Reno, Nev.; Kevin Whitenight, Mesa, Ariz.; six great grandchildren; a sister, Sarah E. Weiser, Mt. Joy; and a brother-in-law, Richard Harvey, wife Georgie, Bloomsburg.
Graveside services will be held in Dodson Cemetery, Southdale at the convenience of the family; with a time and date to be announced.
Memorials in Robertâs name may be sent to a charity of the donorâs choice.
