Robert L. Gumby, age 61, 1020 Clifton Drive, Bloomsburg, died at 12:55 a. m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, where he was a guest for two days. He was in failing health since 2005.
Born in Reading on June 7, 1948, he was the son of the late Phyllis Gumby. He graduated from high school in West Philadelphia and received his B. S. degree from Century University in New Mexico.
Robert resided in Bloomsburg for 3 ½ years and previously lived in Stafford, Virginia for 20 years. He was employed as a communications engineer by Worldcom, McLean, Va. For five years, retiring on Feb. 19, 2005.
He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and of the Knight's of Columbus.
Robert served with the US Army during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ann C. Kurelja, with whom he celebrated his 29th wedding anniversary on February 16, 2009; a daughter, Chelsea L. Gumby, Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Garrett R. Gumby, Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren: Analise C. Gumby and Connor M. Gumby, both at home; and a sister, Connie Stewart, Lebanon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron Street, Bloomsburg. Celebrant will be his pastor, Rev. Paul R. Fisher. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Christian Wake services will be held at 6 p. m.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Avenue, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
