Robert Edward Jones

Robert E. Jones, age 82, 321 Alton Street, Danville, died unexpectedly at his home Monday evening, May 25, 2009, and was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m.

Born in Danville on November 12, 1926, he was a son of the late Lawrence H. and Erath (Ploch) Jones. He resided in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and in Langhorne before returning to Danville in 1955.

He was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville.

Mr. Jones served with the US Navy during World War II and was a life member of the Danville American Legion Post.

He was an avid bowler and also enjoyed woodworking and making things in stained glass.

Preceding him in death were a son, Robert Gregory Jones on January 24, 2000; a brother Lawrence F. Jones and a sister Naomi H. Jones.

Surviving are his wife, the former Clara J. Reisenweaver, with whom he celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary on February 10, 2009; a daughter, Lori A. Jones, Anchorage, Alaska; two grandsons: Joshua R. Jones, and his wife Melanie, Hatfield and Zachary D. Jones, and his wife Jennifer, Danville. He was the last of his immediate family.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Shiloh United Church of Christ, 500 Bloom St., Danville, with Rev. David R. Schnaars, interim pastor of his churh officiating. Private interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. There will be no viewing. The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the church.
