Robert D. Mensch, age 78, 311 Boone Road, Bloomsburg, died at 5:31 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for one week. He had been in failing health for a year and a half.
Born in Mt. Carmel Twp., Northumberland County on January 20, 1936, he was a son of the late Walter and Mildred (Yocum) Mensch. He had resided in the Bloomsburg area since 1967.
Bob was employed for 33 years at Girton Manufacturing Co., Millville, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg; where he served on the council, was an usher, and was active with the menâs prayer breakfast group.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served during the Korean War.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed doing yard work.
Bob was preceded in death by three brothers: Aldon Mensch, William Mensch and Kenneth Mensch.
Surviving is his wife, the former Kathryn B. âKathyâ Shetterly, with whom he would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on September 2, 2014; two sons: Michael A. Mensch and Keith L. Mensch, both of Bloomsburg; and a brother, Donald Mensch, wife Elaine, Lititz.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Interment in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy with military honors by the combined VFW group. Friends may call in the Church Parlor on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
