Robert Ash Naunas, Sr.
Robert Ash Naunas, Sr., age 89, 62 Perry Avenue, Bloomsburg, died at 6:38 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Grandview Health Homes, Danville.
Born in Mahoning Twp., Montour County on November 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Albert G. and Bessie (Ash) Naunas. A 1941 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, he lived in Bloomsburg all his life.
For 40 years Robert owned the former Ash and Naunas Store on East Street in Bloomsburg; a confectionary store and soda fountain that sold ice cream, penny candy and magazines. He greatly enjoyed all of his customers throughout the years.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg for 62 years. Other memberships include Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion; the Bloomsburg Archery Club; Washington Lodge 265, F&AM; Caldwell Consistory; and life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.
Robert served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II on the U.S.S. Lowe, a Destroyer Escort #325, and crossed the Atlantic Ocean 12 times.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Jeanne Rae (DuBois) Naunas on May 25, 2011.
Surviving are two sons: Thomas Ash Naunas, wife Victoria Harper, Madison, Wis.; Robert Ash Naunas, Jr., wife Mary Kay, Wescosville; a grandson, James Ash Naunas, Wescosville; and two sisters: Marianna Whitenight, Bloomsburg and Alberta Gillespie, Titusville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, Market & West Third Streets, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Dr. P. Dale Neufer, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Interment in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg or at the Church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. Please use West Third Street entrance.
