Rose Marie (Vagnoni) Kranig, age 91, of 737 Fort McClure Blvd., Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday evening, November 8, 2019, after an illness.
Born on Dec. 31, 1927 in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Caesar and Adalgisa (Roncase) Vagnoni. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1946 graduate of the former Beaver Main High School. After her mother's passing, when she was 16, she cared for her father and brothers.
Rose Marie was an active member of St. Columba Catholic Church. She served on the Bloomsburg School Board for 17 years, where she was an advocate for advanced academics and the protection of students.
She married the love of her life, Carl O. Kranig, in September, 1965 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1996. They raised their children in a loving home and took every opportunity possible for them to experience new cultures while traveling the world. She loved to cook and share the recipes of her Italian heritage; passing along the traditions to her daughter gave her great joy. Traveling to Italy and visiting family was one of her favorite pastimes.
In 2001, her daughter Ruth opened Rose Marie's Restaurant in Bloomsburg and lovingly named it after her mother. Rose Marie quickly became the face of the Italian restaurant and loved greeting guests, guiding them on what to order, and sharing stories of her travels. Her stories were legendary. Friends and family relished in her excitement when she shared the adventures of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
She was the loving mother of her daughter , Ruth C. Kranig and her husband Patrick Burnside, with whom she last resided and a son Carl W. Kranig, II, of Pequea, Lancaster County; proud aunt of John Vagnoni, and his wife Rachel of Collegeville and great aunt of Rachel, Simone and Dante.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by her priest, Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:45 p. m.
