Rose Ann Novotny, age 63, 64 Quarry Road, Milton, and formerly of Middleburg, died at 6:13 a. m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for six days. She was in failing health for a number of years.
Born in Philadelphia on August 6, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Rosemary (Gough) Humphries. She resided in Milton with her son for the past 1 1/2 months and previously lived in Middleburg. She attended Lourdes High School.
Rose was last employed as a corrections officer at the Berks County Prison near Reading, where she worked for 12 years before retiring due to health issues in 1999. Earlier she was a corrections officer at the Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury.
She was of the Catholic faith.
Rose enjoyed NASCAR racing, camping and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Her dogs, Isabella and Angelica were an important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Smith.
Rose is survived by her son, Thomas A. Smith, and his wife Tonya, with whom she last resided in Milton; three grandchildren: Jeremy J. Smith, and his wife Megan, Clarksville, Tenn.; Brittany Smith, Sunbury; Joshua T. Smith, Watford City, N.D.; a great-grandson, Jacob J. Smith; two sisters: Jacqueline Shetterly, Middleburg and Ricki, wife of Rich Long, Mifflinburg; a brother, Wes Humphries, Lancaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral services or viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1715 Bloom Road, Danville.
