ROY  E.  DIEFFENBACH

Roy E. Dieffenbach, age 75, 299 Zachary Road, Stillwater, died at 11:55 p. m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Hospice Community Care in Dunmore, Lackawanna County where he was a patient for four days.

Born in Cambra on July 20, 1935, he was a son of the late H. Earl and M. Olive (Dohl) Dieffenbach. He resided in Huntington Township, Luzerne County since 1979 and  in upper New York State from 1956 to 1979.

Roy was a 1953 graduate of the former Huntington Mills High School and also attended the Valley Forge Military Academy.

He was  employed as Manager of Norandex Building Supply, Wilkes-Barre, retiring in 1999. He was last employed part-time by the former Windsor Heights Golf Club at Buckhorn,  where he worked for 10 years, retiring in 2009.

Roy attended the Stillwater Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, shooting clay pigeons and playing golf. He was especially proud of having scored two holes in one during his golf outtings.

He served with the National Guard in both New York and Pennsylvania during the 1960's.

Surviving are his wife, the former Magdelena N. "Bucky" Buckman, with whom he celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary on July 27, 2010.; two daughters: Pamela D., wife of Aldo A. Nardiello, Cape Coral, Fla. and Sandra R., wife of Alton D. Culver, Yorktown, Va.; three grandchildren: Aldo, Lino and Marco Nardiello.

He was the last of his immediate family having been preceeded in death by a sister, Ruth O. Sutliff on April 26, 2006.

The Dieffenbach family would like to thank Dr. John Menio, the staff of the Hospice Community Care, Dunmore and the staff of  Medical Oncology, Kingston, for their support and compassionate care given  to Roy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a. m. from the Chapel of Maple Hill Cemetery, 68 E. St. Mary's Road, Wilkes-Barre, with his pastor, Scott L. Lyons officiating. Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society Chapter or Hospice Unit of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
