Russell L. Shuman

Russell L. Shuman, Jr, age 97, formerly of Catawissa and Pittsburgh, died at 11:46 p. m. Saturday , November 4, 2017 at Brookdale At Bloomsburg Senior Living Center, where he resided for four years.

Born in Bloomsburg on March 27, 1920, he was a son of the late Russell L. and Falla M. (Linville) Shuman. He was a 1939  graduate of the former Catawissa High School and attended Bentley College in Boston, Mass. for two years.

Russell resided in Pittsburgh from 1941 until returning to Catawissa in 2006. He was employed by the Westinghouse Corp. for 45 years, retiring in 1985. At the time of his retirement he was the Director of Corporate Accounting.

He was a member of Christ United Lutheran Church,  Catawissa. In Pittsburgh he was a member of the Masonic Lodge 613, F & AM; Syria Mosque Shrine; and the Edgewood Country Club, where he served as president for eight years.  Early in his life he was a member of the Catawissa Military Band.

Russell served with the U. S. Army during World  War II, mainly in the Philippine Islands, attaining the rank of Captain.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, the former Alma J. Skulicz, on July 2, 2010 and by his two brothers: Franklin P. Shuman, on May 13, 1993, and William L. Shuman, on June 1, 2010.

Surviving are his three daughters:  Allida McKinley, Kutztown; Pamela, wife of Scott Lange, Chagrin Falls, Ohio;  Gillian, wife of Jeffrey Waldron, Wayne; four grandchildren;  one great-grandson;  and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Rev. Melody Sell, interim pastor of Christ United Lutheran Church officiating.  Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 a. m. until the time of the services.
